Mole, wart and skin tag removal

Treat unwanted skin lesions such as harmless moles, warts, skin tags and verrucas with cryotherapy

Cryotherapy in Reading

What is cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a quick and effective treatment to remove unwanted skin lesions.

Moles, skin-tags, warts and verrucas can appear on different parts of the body such as the face, hands, feet, armpits, neck and torso. Harmless moles, warts and skin tags are no longer removed on the NHS, however, these may still cause irritation or embarrassment. Cryotherapy is an effective solution to unwanted skin lesions.

A highly accurate stream of Cryogen is projected onto the skin lesion, to freeze and destroy the affected cells, whilst leaving healthy tissue intact. The treatment is extremely quick, with minimal discomfort. Most lesions require only one session.

Treatment journey

1. Your Consultation

You will meet with your qualified cryotherapy practitioner who will take your medical history, including confirmation from your doctor that your mole is harmless. You can have treatment at the same appointment as your consultation.

2. Treatment Plan

The treatment area will be cleaned and then the practitioner will use a handheld device called a cryopen to treat the lesion. The cryopen emits an accurate jet of nitrous oxide gas to freeze the mole, wart, skin tag or verucca, causing the cells to die, whilst leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Over the course of the coming days, the lesion will blister, scab and fall off.

3. Aftercare

Keep the treatment area clean and dry. Do not touch, scratch or pick the blister or scab. If the blister bursts, a plaster can be applied. If the lesion hasn’t fully gone after three weeks, a review appointment will be made, where an additional treatment can be carried out.

Your Questions Answered

The treatment itself is usually pain free, but you might feel some mild discomfort of the treatment area. This sensation normally resolves quickly.

Healing time can vary depending on the size and location of the mole, but it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

The number of treatments required depends on the size, location, and type of mole. Most lesions can be removed in one treatment, while others may require multiple treatments.

In most cases, mole removal is permanent, but there is a slight chance that a mole can regrow if not completely removed.

Patients should avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for at least four weeks before treatment. Patients should also avoid using retinol or exfoliant products one week before the session.
